Radiation spreads far and wide, because now the "normal guy" has a special ability that he just has to realize - namely, summoning. Put under enough stress or placed in a crisis, out pops an entity, a Persona by the name of Hermes, a manifestation of his spirit in a form named after the legendary Greek god. However, summoning and controlling Hermes is terribly draining, and drawing power from the entity too much would exhaust him quite quickly - and losing control of the persona? Death is perfectly possible, on his part, or on that of an innocent bystander. But when in control, Hermes is a powerful entity, as magnificent as the deity it's named after, and more than a force to be reckoned with.

Think "class clown." Think "everyone's buddy." Think "hotheaded brash idiot." Yeah, what you're thinking, it's not too far from the truth. With Junpei, you pretty much get what you see. He's a friendly guy, always willing to chat about whatever's on your mind, and if you're new around, he'll give you a salute, ask you, "Hey, what's up?" Flirty, too - he can't say no to a chick, and he falls straight for the pretty girls. Even if he falls flat on his face when trying to put the moves on them, he still doesn't give up. And if you're not interested in him romantically, well, why not be friends? And if you piss him off, well, don't expect anything less than a good yell-fest - when he's mad, he shows it, he's not the type to bottle it up - and afterwards, he'll calm down, and things'll go back to normal. Hey, wanna go out and get something to eat?
But really, there's more than that to him. Because most of that ridiculous-buffoon-thing is a bit of act to hide his insecurity. Junpei's always been the "normal guy," the one that's always passed off as boring or plain or just not good enough. And that's why he's always wanting the attention, wanting the companionship - to make sure that he's not just forgotten and gone. Not to mention, he's a bit of a romantic, too. Sure, he'll flirt with the girls, but ask him deep down about the whole matter, and you'll see he believes in his one true love. Morals? He's got those, too. He might be scared, but he won't run, he'll fight for what he believes in. He might be pissed, but he won't lie, he doesn't stoop that low. And he might be mad at you, but he'll never backstab a friend, he's loyal to people he deems his companions.
Give him a chance and you'd be surprised - he's exactly how he looks, and maybe a little more, if you stick around and take a second glance.

→ Then, he meets this girl. Chidori. Oh man, the ups and downs of dating. He's head over heels for her, and she takes a while to return the sentiment, but eventually does.
→ Except, whoops, there goes that explosion. They were out around the streets, her drawing and him watching when BOOM CRACK FLASH --- blackout.
→ He woke a few days later. She didn't.
→ But he can't stay by her side forever. Promsies to return, promises to remember her forever - promises that she needs to wake up, that she needs to come back, because he lov--
→ Gotta move on.
→ Life. Back to normal. School. (And homework, ugh.) Friends. The usual, yeah?
